Offline Folder Problem After Changing Network Share Location

We have moved our personal network shares from one server to another (both
new and old server is WindowsNT 4.0 Server with service pak 6a). We have
updated their user profiles in Active Directory to point them to the new
share location (U:) upon re-logon. Now we are getting error messages
stating the their offline folder is not available - "You are working offline
on (new server)". When we click on the balloon in the icon tray, we get a
message stating that the computer was unable to reconnect to (new server).
So far the only fix we have found is to remove the
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\NetCache\Shares\//(new
server)/user1$, where (new server) is the new server name, and user1$ is the
name of their share.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just went through this one myself. There's a couple things it might be.
Group Policy settings perhaps? I know Group Policy can redirect user
directories to network shares, such as mapping My Documents to a user's
network folder. However, I've found it's hard to change later once
implemented. Here's where I would check for any folder redirection settings
in the Windows registry:

NOTE: Use caution when altering your registry.

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/Shell Folders
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/User Shell Folders

Also check for each user (including the Default) under HK_USERS

HK_USERS/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/Shell Folders
HK_USERS/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/User Shell
Folders

Note: I've typically seen folder redirection in the User Shell Folders
mapped to a network share.

Check any Group Policies, user and machine policies you've implemented.

Best regards,

Todd
