Office XP won't install with Vista

I bought a new laptop that had Vista preloaded. I tried to load Office XP
for students and teachers. When I put the CD in the window pops up saying
that the software is loading, but nothing happens. The hard drive does not
spin and neither does the CD drive. What can I do to solve this problem?

Try right clicking on the Office XP setup file, select Properties, Compatibility
tab, select Windows XP SP2, and right click again on the setup file and select
"Run as Administrator".

One option would be to install OpenOffice.org. It won't cost you a dime to
try it.

Are you sure that the Office XP cd is good? Try it on another PC to be sure.
Are you sure your laptop's cd-drive is functional? Does it work with other
CDs? When you do anything "active" on your laptop (i.e. press some keys on
the keyboard or move the mouse around) will the hard drive spin up?

Since you are getting the "software is loading" box, the drive must have
read the disk initially. Can you access the CD from Windows Explorer? If so,
right click "Setup" on the CD and choose "Run as Administrator" or you can
try running the Compatibility Wizard to install Office XP (in Help just type
compatibility wizard and you will see a link to it).

Office XP should install fine on Vista so eliminate the easy causes
first...post back with an update.

My Office 2000 installed without much problem, other than the UAC nags.
It was the Office XP Upgrade that really sucked.
If MS can't identify their own software, they certainly won't recognize
anyone elses.
Whoever designed UAC must have been either an AOHell transplant or wannabe!
