Office XP install problem

P

phpman

Hello all,
I got Office XP to come up on the list of installable programs in 'add
remove programs' but when I click on it, it looks like it almost completly
installs and then the progress bar goes backwards and it says 'Microsoft
office XP .... setup failed'.
I click OK and it says 'fatal error during installation'

Yesterday it was saying that certain files were not available, so I copied
the whole CD to the network share (//server/deploy/office xp) and it can
find the file now, but I was taught (and experianced) that you should only
need the *.msi file to do a complete installation. - In other words- In the
past I copied only the *.msi file and it installed fine.

Any Ideas?
The server is win2K, the workstation is XP pro.
I am using UNC and not a drive letter

Thanks,

Lewis

Well....
Working on the problem further, I found a document saying that you need the
enterprise version and you need to run "setup /a" command.

So I installed a clean machine and used the program on win server disk to do
the "snapshot" method. It worked! But it only works for me and not "all
users" ....

Oh well, making progress...
