Is there any way that I can recover functionality of Word 2000 after having
downloaded Word 2007?

If you allowed 2007 to *replace* your 2000 installation then the only way
would be to uninstall 2007 then reinstall 2000.

I have both menus installed, but only 2007 is functional at this time.

I did not allow 2007 to replace 2000. Both are installed, but only 2007 is
functional.

If you select Word 2000 from the Windows Start menu, it should reconfigure
the registry and start eventually.

Dear Graham,
Thank you for trying to help me, and you have. I guess the bottom line is
Word 2000 is not altogether compatible with Word 2007.

If Word 2000 didn't open eventually, repair Word 2000 from the Windows
Control Panel add or remove programs applet. Next start the Word version you
wish to associate with Word document files to reassociate the registry
entries.

Close Word (either version)

Edit the registry to have the installer ignore the 'switch' between
versions. While this will stop the installer on a regular (as you use the
apps) basis it's not clear at present what other areas this may affect when
switching between Word versions, including running a repair (Office 2000
thru 2003)/diagnostic (Office 2007) or when updates are applied.

Run the version of Word that you want to have associated with your .doc,
..dot, .docx, etc files, then close Word.

Double click, in Windows Explorer in My Documents or another folder a .doc
file to be sure it opens in the correct version you prefer to use then close
all running Office apps.

Use Start=>Run and type Regedit.

Navigate down in HKEY_CURRENT_USER to
\Software\Microsoft\Office

For Word 2007 (v12.0) continue to navigate through

\12.0\Word\Options

and once there right click on the 'Options' branch in the left panel and
create a new 'DWORD' named NoReReg , then set the value of NoReReg to 1.

For Word 2000 (v9.0), follow the same steps as in 2f, but use the area for
Word 2000, which would be

\9.0\Word\Options

Wow Graham!
I could not ask for a more comprehensive answer. But, not to frighten anyone
mind you, Word was just the first test of Office 2007. Now I am unsure I want
to discover the newest features of Excel and PowerPoint, my original quest.
The intricate nature of the possible consequences could be far in excess of
the problems with Word.

Graham,
In Word 2007, I click INSERT to Insert a chart, Select Pie, and receive the
error message, "Close open dialogue boxes or cancel Editing Mode in Excel".
I'm stumped. Nothing else is open. REbooted. Shut down. Everything I know to
do.
Any ideas? (then after that message, I get the "Some charts won't combine,
choose another chart"
Thanks,
Fishmidi
