Office Assistant problem

I'm running office 2000 on a 98se OS.

I get the "There was a problem starting the Office Assistant. Would
you like to try reinstalling it?" error. When I say yes and re-install it I
get the message again. I even uninstalled the entire program and started from
scratch.
Any ideas how to fix it?

Help with Outlook

I too am having a problem opening outlook 2000 on my new computer that has windows vista. I get the "There was a problem starting the Office Assistant. Would you like to try reinstalling it?" error. When I say yes and re-install it I
get the message again. I even uninstalled the entire program and started from
scratch.

I need my contacts and calendar files from it and I am desperate. Any clues on how to fix it?

I have the following on my computer, not sure if that is what is doing this.

office 2007 compatibilty pack
microsoft powerpoint viewer 2007
