Office 2007 installation

I now have Office 2000 installed on my computer. Do I have to uninstall
that before installing Office Home and Student 2007?

No - you shouldn't have to.

However - I personally would and I would also perform an additional backup
beyond your normal backup schedule to be safe.

To add to what Shenan said: because it will give a cleaner system, and
less chance for things to get messed up (with remnants and associations from
the previous Office version still remaining, etc, etc).

But as he pointed out, it would be wise to have a backup, and I'd say a
system backup (clone or image), just in case don't work out right.
