OEM Windows XP Home Edition to Retail Windows XP Pro

Can OEM Windows XP Home Edition be upgraded to a Retail
Windows XP Professional Edition? I bought a notebook with
OEM Windows XP Home Edition and I was just wondering if I
buy a Retail Windows XP Professional Edition, can I apply
it over the original install? Thank you.

Yes, you can upgrade XP Home to Professional. There is no special
upgrade version just for this, but the regular XP Professional
Upgrade works fine (although it doesn't say so on the box).

But are you sure you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Home
and Professional are identical except that Professional includes
a few features (mostly related to security and networking)
missing from Home? Most home users don't need and would never use
these extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.

Yes - that is OK, Run the CD from the present system, enter install,
continue with Upgrade. A Retail Upgrade CD is all you need.

First be sure that you *need* one of the additional facilities that are
only in Pro. See
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_home_pro.asp
for the list of things that are in Pro only. In addition Pro will
support ten simultaneous connections in a network - Home only five

Don't upgrade just because it sounds macho
