OEM Product key does not work - Dell deflected me to Microsoft

Formatted drive..didn't even think to check for the installed key because I
just figured the sticker on the bottom would be right...
I was wrong.
The key shipped with my dell does not work, called them and they sent me to
Microsoft. Is there anything microsoft will do to fix this, or is this
solely on Dell?
 
The sticker on the bottom is correct as long as it is the original.
Are you using the key affixed to the computer with the CD that came with
that computer.
If not, that is the problem since there are different types of each and they
are not all interchangeable.

If you are using the correct CD and key, contact Dell, Microsoft can not
help with that OEM issue.
