Hi.

I have a new pc, and am having difficulty transferring messages (either by
import or export) from Outlook Express 6 (running on my old machine) to
Outlook 2002 on my new machine. The machines are networked, with everything
on the old C: shared with the new machine.

First, I tried exporting from OE6 - I choose; File>Export>Messages, select
"OK" from the "This will export messages..." box, and right away I get an
error; "The export could not be performed. An error occurde while
initializing MAPI".

I tried Importing from Outlook 2002 on my new PC (File>Import>Import
Internet Mail And Addresses>Outlook Express 4.x, 5>... I point to the
location of my dbx files (the OutlookExpress folder), and i got an error
saying the folder couldn't be opened - perhaps it is in use. it wasn't in use.

I figured it might have something to do with the network, so I moved the
Outlookexpress folder to my new PC, and tried the Import utility again, but I
got the same message - the folder couldn't be opened....

now, I can't try it again, because when I use the Import utility, for some
reason it no longer gives me the option of pointing at a specific folder for
importing messages. it seems to be defaulting to the installation of outlook
express on my new PC, which I guess is part of IE..? I don't think I can
uninstall it.

What can I do?

Thanks.

OE and Outlook must be on the same partition for import and export functions
to work.
Why didn't you just import into OE on your new partition first?

Have you ever resolved this problem? I am having the same problems without
the computers being in a network.
