OE6 takes forever to open

I'm working on a brand new P4, 1gb pc with a newly purchased full version of
XP Pro (not OEM). For some reason, OE6 takes approximately 4 minutes to
open from the time I click the icon in the program menu. I've always had it
positioned in my taskbar but took it out on this installation thinking it
would solve the problem. I've had several support calls in to Microsoft for
other issues and have already had to uninstall & reinstall XP twice. It was
originally thought that I'd gotten a bad cd but all other problems seemed to
be fixed on the 3rd installation...except OE6. Any ideas as to why it takes
so long to open?

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
later than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? Also, remove
spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from www.security.kolla.de and
Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to update these programs
before running them. It is best to run antivirus and spyware removal
tools in Safe Mode.

Thanks. I use Norton Internet Security 2004 package which includes NAV 2004
and I get a clean scan. I downloaded & ran both Ad-Aware & Spybot S&D.

The Ad-Aware scan was a bit confusing because I didn't know what some of the
found items were although a couple were identified in my later Spybot scan.
I selected those files in Ad-Aware (95% cookies) plus some eAccelerator
items then quarantined them before removing the files. I believe there were
11 files found in that scan.

Spybot found that stupid My Search bar that I have uninstalled through
Add/Remove Programs & deleted from the C: directory several times now.
Evidently it doesn't like to go away. It also had me remove Windows Media
Player & Alexa, otherwise the scan was fine.

I rebooted after the scans were complete but am still having the OE6
problem. It would be nice if I could get a new, clean copy of OE6 to
install over the current one because I am beginning to suspect its a problem
with my XP cd.

Have you recently removed Windows Messenger?

I believe I just removed it from my startup. The .exe, .dll & .gif files
are still in the Program Files\Messenger folder but Messenger does not
appear in my list of programs, does not start during startup, and is not
listed in my Add/Remove programs.

After reading the response to my other post (crtcclient) and the mention
that the process is linked to Messenger, I went to the Add/Remove Windows
Components to see if its checked and its not so while the files are on my
pc, I don't believe Messenger is active. I don't really want it on my pc
because I have no use for it. I've had problems with the add/remove windows
components before. My XP Pro cd doesn't automatically install
games/accessories and some other components (microsoft thought I may have
gotten a bad cd) so I've had to go in and manually check & uncheck things.
If I must have Messenger active on my pc, can you tell me how to make it so
that it doesn't start up automatically or show a logon screen at startup?
