OE Newsreader hangs

John

Since installing the beta, I get about half way through reading my
newsgroups (I subscribe to about twenty over three different news servers,
read them about every three days), and OE express locks up when I click a
"mark all as read" icon. Usually I can close just OE, and then restart it,
but it will hang again after a couple more newsgroups. If I turn off
spyware, it works fine. I use Outlook for email, etc, but of course it uses
Outlook Express for a newsreader. I know I could use a different one, but
after years of OE I'm just very used to it. If anyone knows of a fix,
please pass it on.

John--if you right-click the Microsoft Antispyware logo in the system
tray/notification area, and choose "Shutdown Microsoft Antispyware", does
this problem go away?

I use OE as my newsreader, and haven't seen this issue, but there are
definitely performance issues and resource-usage issues seen with the beta
on individual machines.

Well it still a beta product, so nothing wrong in turning it off to use the
news reader. Are you running a scan when using the news reader?

'Mark all as read' has always been buggy and slow. Use ctrl a, ctrl q
instead.

Also, compact all folders (file, folders, compact all folders).

Thanks, that seems to be working.
