Oddly named directory in D:\?

Morning,

What is the purpose of a directory named "D:\60ff3e41d664acb320". I see
directories similar at different times on different computers. I don't
see a pattern for the directories. What are they for, what makes them,
and can I delete them? This example is from a 2003 SBS box.

What is installed on all of these D directories?

What is installed on all of these D directories?

It's odd. In this directory are:

d:\60ff3e41d664acb320\amd64
d:\60ff3e41d664acb320\i386

It looks like some sort of installation directory.

On this box I have no "c:\i386" directory.

These D: folders look like temporary folders holding
material for upgrades (and owing to faulty programming
not deleted on completion of the upgrades.) Key names
AMD64 obviously refers to the CPU and i368 to the
Windows XP system files. All standard installations of
XP include C:\Windows\i386 (attrib H = Hidden) and usually
many more in subfolders for Java, System32 etc.

Yes

it's the installation folder for an update

after a reboot it should be gone...

if not, it's safe to delete
