Odd RAM problem

B

BurningSkies

I've been running my computer with a 512mb DDR PC3200
stick of RAM for a while now, so I decided to get another
stick which is exactly the same to take my memory up to a
gig. I put the extra stick in and now my games are
randomly crashing to the desktop. I messed around with the
RAM on my mobo for a bit to see what combinations did
what, and I got this: (I have 2 ram slots on my mobo, ill
refer to them as slot a and slot b.)

If I have my old ram in slot A and new ram in slot B, I
get crashes.
If I have my new ram in slot A and old ram in slot B,
windows doesn't boot because there is apparantley a system
file missing.
If I only have 1 stick of ram in my mobo, it works fine.

Any help would be appreciated, this problem doesn't make
any sense to me :(

The two RAM sticks are incompatible. They may look the same, but some
manufacturers use whatever chips are cheapest at time of purchase, resulting
in differences in the timing. Apparently, even though you state the chips
are exactly the same, they are not.

Check your motherboard manual. There are many restrictions
concerning which types of RAM are compatable. (ie single
sided double sided etc etc)
