Odd question about toolbar buttons

Hello all,

This is an odd one, well to me anyway, and I was hoping somebody can help
me.

I wanted to use my Outlook 2003 to be able to read newsgroups. I wento the
Help and found out out that I first had to start the Newsgroup Reader. I was
to do that by:

Add the News command to the Go menu. And I do THAT by:
1.. On the Standard Toolbar, click the Toolbar Options arrow .
2.. Point to Add or Remove Buttons, and then click Customize.
3.. Click the Commands tab.
4.. In the Categories list, click Go.
5.. In the Commands list, click News, and drag it, without releasing the
mouse, until it rests over the Go menu. When the menu displays a list of
commands, point to where you want the command to appear, and then release
the mouse.
Well, I did steps 1 through 4. Then, when I dragged it to the Go menu (I
assumed they meant the horizonantal menus on the Menu Bar of the window) it
instead made a seperate entry on the Menu bar. So, the horizontal menus read
File Edit View Go News Tools Action Help.

I guess I could hve lived with that, however, that menu entry just
disappeard. So now the menu is back to its original File Edit View Go
Tools Action Help.

So, I figured I'd just try again, However, now, the News button mentioned in
Step 5 is gone - it is no longer there for me to drag.

I've tried resetting Toolbars.

I've tried Detect and Repair.

I'd really rather not have to re-install.

Any ideas ?

THANK YOU !!!

The answer to this question is posted in this newsgroup thousands of times.
Google Groups could have helped you find it in less time than it took you to
ask it in the first place.

Open IE and click Tools>Internet Options>Programs. In the Newsgroups
drop-down, select Outlook Express. Click OK. This should give you back the
button. If the next time you start Outlook Express, if it asks you if you
want to make it the default newsreader, check the "don't ask again" button
and click No.

Well, I already have Outlook Express selected in my IE options – with no
other options to choose. So, it is actually not that simple.

Right click on the OE shortcut icon » select properties » add [ /outnews] to the path so that it reads ["C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews] » OE will now open in newsreader mode.
