OCRing a Fax Received in XP with MS Tools

E

eager to learn

Hi,

I'd like to OCR a fax I received.

In MS Tools, I choose Tools > Recognize as Text and it seems to OCR as I see
the green bar complete.

But, where does the OCR of that fax go? It just seems to disappear.

It never prompts me as to what directory I want to save it in.

If I just...
1. Open the Fax
2. Click Page > Select All Pages.
4. Click Tools > Send to Word.

I get an error message.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks so much,.

Are you referring to Office XP/2002 or Windows XP?

If you use 'recognize as text' the OCR information can be saved in the file from MS Office Document imaging so you could reopen it
later and not need to rerun OCR. It doesn't try to send it to Word unless set or asked to do so.

There have been some things that broke in MS Office Document Imaging with some of the Office Service Packs. What is the exact
error you're getting?

Did your scanner come with its own OCR optional install software? If so, you may want to try that as an alternative.
