Frankly, java compatibilty isn't somethign they should have been designing
for.

It's a bit late to be deciding that

I would argue that Java compatibilty was likely near the bottom of the
compatibility pile. The langauges are similar, but I do not think C# was a
blind Java clone and it certainly didn't choose the java way for the sake of
java compatibility whenever a crossroads was met.
