Object is too large?

I have a finnish version of Office 2003. I have a very large (1,6 mb)
database that i made with Access 2000. With Access 2000, there are no
problems but in Access 2003 some tables create the following error-message:

In finnish: Luku on liian suuri
In english: Number (or object, whichever word the english-version uses) is
too large

The most annoying thing is that some tables send this message several times
before the table actually opens. One table sends it even 22 times before
opening the file!!!

I have carefully checked the db-file and there should not be any problem and
as i said there are no problems with Access 2000. I am also very experienced
user but this is too big of a problem for me.

First, a 1.6 MB database is not large. a 1.6 GB database would be very
large. Your database may be corrupt. Try the following:

First, always work on a copy of the database. Working on the original may
make it impossible for a repair service to fix it.

Download a copy of JetComp.exe:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;273956

Also have a look at the Microsoft KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;209137

Then have a look at Tony Toews' Access Corruption FAQ at:

http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/corruptmdbs.htm

for some suggestions. Unfortunately, some corruption cannot be fixed - you
may need to create a new database, import what can be salvaged, and recreate
the rest.

Although it's a paid service, Peter Miller does an outstanding job of saving
corrupt databases. Try this URL:

Thanks for the info but i doubt that this database is corrupt, since it works
fine on Access 2000.

It seems that if i remove all the connections between tables AND remove the
fields that were linked by connections there are no more errors. However,
this is not suitable. I just want to get the database to work without
removing any connections, information or fields.

The error message i get is one of the either:
Record is too large
Number is too large
Object is too large

I repeat. The first thing you need to rule out is corruption. Until you have
run the tables through JetComp. you cannot be sure. Since the error you are
getting is not consistent as to what is too large, there is a very good
chance that 1 or more rows of data are corrupt.

You do not need to convert the data to Access 2003 to run it in Access 2003.
In fact, there is no compelling advantage to doing so. If you are using
features which require Access 2003, simply convert the front-end (code,
forms, reports, queries, etc.) to Access 2003 and leave the back-end (data
tables) in Access 2000.

Thanks for the help.

However, i have progressed in this problem.

I've found out that the list size changes when i open the database Access
2000 and then open it with the Access 2003 or vice versa. The list size
changes into 57.79 cm which creates an error.

Strange...

Ah! Perhaps this is different problem. The maximum size of an Access form or
report is 22 inches in either dimension which is just under 56 cm. You are
growing the physical size of your list past the capacity. Why it works in
any version is a mystery.
