Why do I get this "Processing of object failed with the
following error: The specified domain either does not
exsist or could not be contacted."
When I try to add site operators to the "Default web site
or FTP site" in IIS 5, even though I am connected to the
domain and can see the users list.

Make sure your dns is configured correctly. For W2k domain members, the
preferred dns server must be a domain controller for the domain running dns
and NEVER an ISP dsn server even down the list. You can try to ping it, use
nslookup, and netdiag to troubleshoot network and domain connection/dns
problems. --- Steve

Thanks, Steve......

I have a primary and a secondary DNS, I can ping it. When
I first
attempt to
add the site operator the domain user list shows up, after
the error I
get
just the local computer user list.
I can even use IE from another computer to bring up the
default page
over
the intranet.

Hmm. It may help to run netdiag on that machine to look for failed tests
that may indicate the problem, particualry with domain membership or secure
channel. Netiag is on the install cd in the support/tools folder where you
have to run the setup program there. The KB link below dicusses the problem
you are having and it is usally dns related. Also be sure that when you have
more than one nic, that the internal lan nic is at the top of the priority
order in network connections/advanced/avanced. --- Steve
