NWWIA

I have a folder in C:\Program Files called "xerox: and a subfolder
"nwwia". Apparently I am not the only one with this. The folder is
empty, but cannot be deleted.

Seems to be some kind of paranoiac string about this (found that on
Google), and naturally something as bizarre as an empty folder that
cannot be deleted would lead some to paranoia.

Anybody know what this folder ACTUALLY is, and why it cannot be
deleted?

Hi,

What happens when you try to delete it?

See this from MVP Kelly:

Actually, I believe it is a protected system files and can't be deleted.
Probably something to do with MS licensing some part of WIA from Xerox.

It's part of the XP operating system, and if you don't have any Xerox
programs installed, it's empty by default. If you delete it, the operating
system will make another one. Don't worry about it, it isn't spying on you.
It's just an empty folder.
Xerox. This folder contains all the files used by Xerox applications. By
default, this folder is empty.

Why would you want to poke around deleting program files? What harm does an
empty folder do?

It's a system protected folder and can't be deleted. Don't get your panties
in a bunch because of it (-:

Yep, looks like you're right. Upon some further research, it appears to be a
placeholder for Xerox scanner drivers. If one isn't attached, then the
folder's empty. Now that was pretty stupid of someone to designate that as a
protected system folder when it is not used. That'd be like requiring every
car owner to have at least one reserved empty seat when they're driving,
just in case they pick up someone along the way.
