I use Windows XP Home edition and just installed an NVIDIA MX440 card.
Everything runing under XP works just fine. However when I use Norton's
Ghost to back up a partions the screen goes blank as soon as the machine
reboots into the DOS mode supplied by Ghost to do the backup. This also
happens with Partition Magic when redoing a partiton. Also, booting from a
DOS floppy produces a blank screen.

Google reveasl a whole bunch of post on the DOS vs. MX440 situation but I
can find to clear solution to the problem. I believe I have the latest
driver I can find but the problem still exists.

Can some one help me?

Thank you.

Jack, I found the latest driver is not the best, do you have the CD that
came with the card?

Windows Update distributes NVIDIA drivers sometimes and I have heard a lot
of people blame Windows Update for NVIDIA driver problems but in fact no
matter where I get drivers from the newer ones seem to get worse for video
mode problems.

I'm using version 6.6.9.3 from 2004 with W2003 and two monitors, any later
than that it goes berserk. Of course there may be other hardware issues so
what suits your system may well be different.

As it happens I just uploaded a few older versions to try on a machine at
work so by all means have a look here http://12.216.96.92/nvidiadrivers/

It is difficult to predict what will work as symptoms don't always show
themselves right away. I always suggest downloading and keeping drivers
rather than using install online.

Thank you Charlie. I do have the CD that came with the card so I will give
it a try.

Well I have been disappointed by more recent versions, the very latest
results in a BSOD during boot up, the one before so very strange problems
running DOS style programs or MS Visual Studio 2005 so wound up rolling it
back. You will get asked "Do you want to replace xxxxx with an older version
but I think it is worth a try since the problem is obviously a nuisance to
you that is not going to go away if it is due to the drivers.

Thanks, I used the driver from the CD with no luck. Still the blank screen.

Locate and install Driver Cleaner Pro.

Uninstall the nVidia driver from Add/Remove Programs, but do not reboot.

Run Driver Cleaner Pro and remove all the "left over" nVidia file/settings.
Now reboot.

Let XP detect the video card but do not give it the nVidia CD yet.

Run the nVidia CD setup and re-install the drivers from it.

You have been 'playing" around with the drivers so much that you may have a
mixed set of nVidia driver files. The above steps usually will clear out all
the "left over" nVidia settings. Then, when you re-install the drivers from
the CD, you should have the correct file for that version (and no mix up.)

If that does not work for you, you may want to consider replacing the MX 440
video card with a newer model. You do not have to buy the latest and greatest
video card but you should be able to pick up a new GeForce FX or 6xxx locally.

Thank you Yves. I will try that and as you suggest if it does do the job I
will trot down to the store and get a new card.
