Hi,

I scanned my computer at the Windows XP update site and
downloaded and installed the Nvidia display driver that
was recommended. Now when my computer starts up the
Windows XP theme 'tune' stops and starts. Once Windows
has booted up everything is OK. This is not a major
problem but it would be good to try and get it sorted.

I have the latest sound driver installed.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Martin

I'm not sure what this NVIDIA file is that is on the windows update.

I have a certified driver from the NVIDIA website that is much newer than
the one it is telling me i need to download.

I personally ignore display driver s on the upodate site and get them either
from your card manufacturer web or in this case the main nvidia web site.

Yep I second that, always use driver updates from the hardware vendors
website.

Have you heard the expression: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? If your
drivers need updating, then the manufacturers of the hardware will take care
of that. The drivers on MSs site are just updates of the drivers that
shipped with your Windows CD. They are not updates of the manufacturers
drivers. The drivers that ship with the XP CD are not neccessarily fully
functional either.

The same thing happened to me, though I didn't associate it with the
downoading of the new NVidia driver. But the hiccup in the opening strain of
sound was noticeable and I got a "dingfix" from Kelly's Web site that
cleared it up. I wish I understood how a registry change can do that, but it
worked.
