Numeric Keypad

Following a re-install I have found that my number keypad is not responding.
I use it a lot so could someone tell my how to enable use of the numeric
keypad?
A lot of settings seem to have changed since I have had to do a re-install.

Press the numlock key?

Well, of course. You have a new installation; any user-specific or
customized settings will have been returned to their default settings.
