I HAVE A IBM THINKPAD R50e WITH ONLY A NUMERIC KEYPAD ON THE NORMAL LETTERS
FOR INSTANCE 1 ON J, 2 ON K ETC. I DO A LOT OF NUMBER WORK AND USUALLY PLUG
IN A USB NUMERIC KEYPAD. ON MY PREVIOUS COMPUTER THIS WORKED FINE, IN OTHER
WORDS I WOULD PRESS NUMLOCK AND ONLY THE NUMERIC KEYPAD'S NUMBER WOULD WORK
WHILE THE LETTERS ON THE KEYBOARD REMAINED FUNCTIONAL. WITH THE THINKPAD THE
MOMENT I PRESS NUMLOCK THE LETTERS WITH NUMBERS ON ARE DISABLED AND THE
NUMBER IS TYED INSTEAD. IS THERE A WAY TO GET THE NUMERIC KEYPAD TO WORK AS
IT DID ON THE OTHER COMPUTER?

First, your caps lock is stuck.

Second, read your manual

What manual must I read? I havn't got a manual for the numeric keypad anymore
as it was bought some time ago. The keypad works fine on my Dell Notebook so
I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I have had the same problem on
a Toshiba notebook on the week so I am convinced it must be a setting that
can be changed or a driver that must be loaded. Any suggestions?

He meant for you to read your IBM TP manual. The Numlock is triggered by
pressing some combination of FN + [some key]. I don't know what it is for
your model TP.

Go to Lenovo's tech support site for your specific model TP. They will have
a user's manual and you can look up the special key combinations there.

If you had the same problem on other laptops, then you are pressing FN +
[some key] while you are typing. The keypress is probably the same (or
similar) for the Toshiba and not for the Dell.

Manufactures have web sites, with support sections. They
have manuals for just about every product that they have
sold. You know the exact make and model of what you have.
Find the product manuals for the laptop, keypad and any
other hardware you have and read the manual. Or take it in
to a professional, pay them $100 and hour for them to read
the manual for you.

If you could get past the sarcasm we might actually find a solution. I have
read the MANUAL and it says that the internal numeric pad will be disabled
when an external keyboard or numeric pad is plugged in. It obviously does not
work. There is no other mention made of the Num Lock function in the MANUAL.
I have also ask IBM to comment on the problem as I am unsure whether it is a
hardware or software problem.

And why would I care whether you find a solution? You seem
to expect somebody to solve your problem, without any real
information about what hardware you have, what software you
have installed, whether you properly installed the keypad,
or any other useful information. I'll ask you some
questions... Is the keypad USB or PS/2? Did you install any
drivers before connecting the hardware? Maybe somebody else
will chip in, I don't have an further interest in this
"problem" since it is yours and not mine.
