Numbering Changes when editing with Track Changes

WORD 2004, Mac OS

This occurs often with track changes. We have paragraph numbering (outline
numbering style) in documents. When track changes is turned on and we do
edits the numbering will all of sudden change.

example, paragraph:

21
22
23

will change to

21
3
4

It doesn't happen all the time. I wish I could attach a screen shot to show
you.

I'm praying someone has some idea why this is happening.

Numbering of all kinds is always unsettled in documents with markup until
all changes have been accepted.

Thanks. Is this something I can confidently tell staff? Have you ever heard
any reason why it's so unsettled? Thanks again

Well, nothing is "final" until changes are accepted. If you've marked a
numbered item for deletion but not actually deleted it, its number is
preserved.
