Number Sort Issue/Error

I copy a list of numbers to a worksheet with similiar identifying numbers (in
same column). When I sort by ascending order the list of numbers ascends the
original list of numbers and then ascends the copied list of numbers.

Or rather even though 324442 (original list of numbers) is higher
numerically, than lets say, 324419 the number will be sorted before 324419
with its 'original list' of numbers and is not correctly sorted after 324419.

Thinking its a formatting issue (which I believe is the case) I format all
the column in numbers and/or text - and yet still the list does not correctly
sort. I then copy the same table in Word and it sorts numerically correctly
as expected. Is this an Excel bug. Any suggestions on how I can paste a
list of numbers so the list sorts correctly with the original list of
numbers??

Thanks

Hi
after formating the column as 'Number' try:
- select an empty cell and copy it
- select your data
- goto 'Edit - Paste Special' and choose 'Add'

Now sort again

Wow - that works. Thanks

Another question. When I do your workaround, or not - and import into an
Access table the table import feature makes a couple dozen of the numbers
error into an error table. They're just numbers - just as in the other list.
Any tricks to simply import the numbers as plain text so that Access doesn't
throw some out and not others?

Thanks
