Number Fields in Access 2007 Database

I recently upgraded from Access 2K to Access 2007.
Here is my situation:
I add a new number field to an existing database (481 records).
In Access 2K, the following happens:
I enter the number 1 in the new number field for the first record and press
the enter key. The cursor moves to the blank number field for the next
record. I enter the number 2 in that field and press enter. The cursor
moves to the next record and the number 3 appears automatically. If I keep
pressing the enter key, the new number field will be numbered sequentially
for each record until I get to the end, 4, 5, 6...... etc.
In Access 2007, that doesn't happen. I have to manually enter each
successive number. Is there a way to do this in Access 2007?

Thanks

What you're describing was actually a bug in the previous version of Access.
Behaviour like that should never have occured in a database.

You could try setting the field as an AutoNumber. Note, however, that it's
possible that you'll have gaps in the numbering.
