Nudge and Wink gone

My bottom line of my Windows Live Messenger; Version 2009 (Build
14.0.8089.726 contact still has “Emoticonsâ€, but has lost its “Nudge†and
“Winkâ€. That line now has “Fontâ€, “background†and “Handwritingâ€.
How can I restore the bottom line to it original version?

Are you sure the emoticons button is appearing? If they were all gone, it would indicate
that the formatting toolbar has just been turned off. If that were the case, you could open
any conversation window, press the Alt key on the keyboard to bring up the menu bar, choose
Tools, then Show toolbars, and then choose Formatting.

Otherwise try shutting down Messenger and restarting it as it's possible the web
configuration service just blocked out those features in this session for some reason.

The Emoticons Smily Face is there. Both Formating and Standard Toolbars are
checked. I have had this problem for weeks, and the computer has been
restarted many times. Any other thoughts?
 
I still have my problem. Some of my Messenger friends have the Wink and Nudge
on their box, most do not. Is there a way that I can delete and re-install
Messenger?

Apparently there is something is wrong with the way my Messenger/Emoticons
boots up. I have 13 friends on Messenger; 2 get Select an Emoticon, Wink,
Nudge, Scroll Right, and Hand writing. 10 others get Select an Emoticon,
Font, Background and Handwriting. One only gets Select an Emoticon and
Background.

Is there a way that I can remove Messenger and re-boot it up to see if the
glitch goes away?
 
I notice that the two Friends that have Nudge and Wink varies, but is never
more than two at anyone time. Is this helpful? How can I uninstall
Messenger, and then re-install it to see if the problem goes away?
 
I can't believe this bug is not fixed yet. Since 2009, winks and nudges are SOMETIMES missing in conversation windows with SOME contacts, and emoticons are not displayed correctly at the receiver (even though their button is there and they do show correctly at the sender's end). XP has passed, Vista is gone quicker than the wind, and now we're at Windows 7 with the new WLM version 2011 (15.4) - and the problem is still there!

The problem is not there every time and not for all contacts - so it's not just a setting. And often the problem is just apparent on one side - the other person can send winks & nudges freely. Sometimes the problem goes away when restarting WLM, but not often. When pressing F2 to send a voice clip, I get a red error message saying that the person uses a version of Messenger that does not support voice clips. This is simply not true, since it works at other times. We're both using a new version of the original WLM, and we're sitting at our ordinary computers on our ordinary home networks.

WHAT is it that can cause a WLM session to think that the other user has some other version and remove these features?

Please tell us the tech stuff, please say exactly which ports need to be open, which services need to be running etc for these functions to work. Try to specify the best workarounds and say what to avoid.

Thousands of people have had this problem for over a year now. WHAT more would it take to have somebody file a bug report and finally get it fixed? What's the selling point of Windows Live Messenger if its unique functions does not function?
