The full text is as follows :please re-install the following module to your
system 32 directory.
COMM.DRV

The problem this causes is that the printer ink monitor does not show on
the desk top and in printing preferences shows the ink levels greyed out.
Microsoft say this is an Epson problem and Epson say this is a Microsoft
problem.
(so whats new)
Ive searched theWindows XP and the Epson CD's but cannot find COMM.DRV module.

Im not a computor expert so a little bit lost as to my next step.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\comm.drv or %windir%\system32\comm.drv

comm.drv is a Device driver, more specifically, Windows COMM Driver. Used
for WOW, Windows on Windows, wowexec.exe and NTVDM.EXE, NT Virtual DOS
Machine, for old 16-bit MS-DOS apps.

COMM.DR_ is the compressed version of comm.drv and should be in the I386
folder on the XP CD. The underscore (_) means that the file is compressed.
The compressed file needs to be expanded to be of any use. To expand it to
the proper location...

Insert your XP CD into your CD drive and enter (Copy and Paste) the
following command into the Start | Run box:

expand X:\i386\comm.dr_ %windir%\system32\comm.drv

Hit your ENTER key or click OK.

NOTE: Change X to = your CD drive letter before typing or pasting the
command.
