Can't install the HP printer program as I get an NTVDM.EXE error every time.

In fact a number of 16 bit apps fail with the NTVDM.EXE error

Any ideas please?
 
Sorry, I should have said, the error message is just ntvdm.exe has
encountered a problem etc.

Other DOS apps are sysedit etc.
