ntoskrnl.exe missing

Hi.

I have an LG notebook with no floppy drive and no cd rom.

I have received a message that states the following:

" <Windows Root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe missing or corrupt "

Can anyone tell me how to fix this, or will I have to take it to the shop for repair?

Does your PC boot up when you get this message, or does it happen before Windows loads?

If it is before Windows even loads, then I'd try performing a repair install of Windows XP - although as you have no cd-drive then you may need to try and do this via USB (which will be more complicated).

If you have the recovery consolse installed already, you could always try replacing the file, but that will be hard to do : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314058
