Hi all,

Iam running Windows 2000 Server on my machine. Suddenly is
has given blue screen and when I tried to reboot the
machine, its giving the message "Windows 2000 Server not
started because the following file is missing or corrupt.
<Windows 2000 root>\System32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please reinstall a copy of the above file."

Could any one help in this issue..? I'll try to recover
the OS in the mean time by checking the values in the
boot.ini file. Let me know the procedure if any thing
extra is there..

Regards

Yes most likely that is occuring because the boot.ini file is missing.

The other possible things are a disk problem, ntoskrnl.exe is missing or
hal.dll is missing. Boot to recovery console and run chkdsk /p. Check
the contents of boot.ini and if necessary copy one from another system.

Hi Leonard Severt

I could not find the boot.ini on the other machine where
Iam running Windows 2000 Server. Where the boot.ini will
be stored?

But that machine is working very fine. Is it something
soted in the registries?

I've created the startup disk from the help given below..

Let me check and I'll get back to you..

Boot.ini is hidden and system file always stored in the root of C. You
just need to change folder options so you can view the file.
