NTLDR is missing

I just reinstalled XP Home SP2 and my programs. Now it won't boot.
One of the messages I get is

NTLDR is missing

I note that others have seen this message; the KB Article 318728
refers only to Windows 2000, however. Will that article apply to XP
as well?
