NTL proxy server?

I am on NTL broadband and use XP Pro. I don't think I am using a
proxy server.

When I post to the Usenet via "text.news.ntlworld.com" then I see
that in the headers that my IP address is 81.111.135.93

However when I go to this website:
http://megawx.aws.com/support/faq/software/ip.asp
then it says my IP address is something else: 62.255.64.8

That seemed odd so I went to:
http://www.all-nettools.com/privacy/anon.htm
and clicked the green CHECK button near the bottom of the page.
I got this:

<QUOTE>
Proxy server detected
You came from: 81.111.135.93
Remote address: 62.255.64.18
Remote host: 62.255.64.18
<END QUOTE>

Why is this happening?

I do not have any proxy entries in my browser or in my newsreader.

Where is the proxy being set up as I don't think I did it.

Jax,

In common with many ISPs, NTL uses transparent web caches. All HTTP
traffic on port 80 is automatically handled by a caching proxy
server.

Why? It reduces costs for NTL - if the page you're after can be
served from an NTL cache server, it reduces traffic on their
external Internet connections which cost them real money. It also
improves response time to the user - provided the cache server is
not overloaded/ misconfigured/ confused/ broken :)

It's NTL's doing - you don't have any say in it. All traffic goes through
the transparent cache. See here if you want more info;
