NTFS question

H

HowburyPete

I installed XP as an uograde, keeping the fat32 format because I also
run linux.

Now, however, I want to create a small fat32 partition to transfer
files between linux and XP, wghile formatting the main XP partition to
ntfs, mainly for its privacy settings.

However, when I read the help section on ntfs, I read the following
dire warning:

Volumes converted from FAT to NTFS lack some performance benefits
compared to volumes initially formatted with NTFS. On converted
volumes, the MFT might become fragmented. In addition, on converted
boot volumes, NTFS permissions are not applied after the volume is
converted.

Could somebody explain to me exactly what that will mean to me in real
terms?

TIA

That's obvious - you also know nothing about spelling or sentence
construction either.

I think you better study up more on this question.
Saw in a past post (forgot where sorry) that once its converted to a fat32
you can not change to NTFS...something like that. Check this out before you
decide..I would!

That is /not/ correct. It is easy (well relatively - procedures such as this
always carry an element of risk) to covert between FAT32 and NTFS. However,
without a third party application (e.g Partition Magic or Drive Commander)
it is a one way street without formatting. Please look up 'convert to NTFS'
in the Help and Support Centre.
