NTFS & FAT.

Can anyone please help/answer me:

1.What is OEM(full form)?
2.As in FAT32 the default cluster size as small as 4 KB;
that for FAT16 is 32 KB; what is the default cluster size
for NTFS (in XP)??
3.In Advanced BIOS Features under OS select for DRAM >
64MB, its given that "Select OS2 only if you are running
OS/2 operating system with greater than 64MB of RAM on the
system" --- what is meant by "OS/2 operating system"
here???
Suppose I've a dual boot with win-ME & win-XP and 256MB of
RAM (SD), what should I select-- OS2 or Non-OS2 ???
4.As stated in "Microsoft Knowledge Base Article-154997" ,
that Windows 98 and Windows Me includes a FAT32 conversion
tool which we can use by clicking Start->Programs-
Accessories->System Tools->Drive Converter (FAT32)... But
though my present file system is FAT32, I cant even see
any such drive converter in the system tools..why is this
so??? [N.B.- I'm running win-ME & XP in FAT32]
5.Is there any such drive converting tool(from FAT to
FAT32 or NTFS & vice versa) available for free download??
Please give some links...
Thanks in advance..

Not sure exactly what you mean by the (full form) part. For
information about OEM software see
http://onlinehelp.bc.ca/oem_software.htm
2.As in FAT32 the default cluster size as small as 4 KB;

Actually the default cluster size for FAT16 is only 32KB on drives
larger than 1 gb. FAT16 can only work with a maximum of 65.534
clusters on a drive, and the cluster size will be increased so as to
remain within that limit.

3.In Advanced BIOS Features under OS select for DRAM >

OS/2 operating system with greater than 64MB of RAM on the

OS/2 is an operating system that was originally being developed
jointly by Microsoft and IBM. In the early 1990s the partnership
dissolved and IBM carried on with OS/2 and released it as their own
product. It never achieved much popularity but there are some who do
use it.

Suppose I've a dual boot with win-ME & win-XP and 256MB of
RAM (SD), what should I select-- OS2 or Non-OS2 ???
Non-OS2

4.As stated in "Microsoft Knowledge Base Article-154997" ,

The Drive converter utility to convert FAT16 to FAT32 should be
present in your Windows Me system. It may not have been installed
during the Windows Me setup. Check Control Panel - Add/Remove
Programs - Windows Components.
5.Is there any such drive converting tool(from FAT to
FAT32 or NTFS & vice versa) available for free download??
Please give some links...
Thanks in advance..

BootItNG from www.bootitng.com has the ability to convert FAT16 to
FAT32 and also to convert either FAT16 or FAT32 to NTFS. It is not
free, but does have a 30 day free trial period There is no free
utility that I am aware of that will convert NTFS to FAT32.

Good luck

For a beginner, maybe the following will help answer "What is OEM?"

In addition to Original Equipment Manufacturer, OEM usually means the item
comes in a "white box" or no box at all. Normally hardware sells for a lower
price, has no software except what driver may be required for that board,
etc. Also any warranty will probably be different than if purchasing a
retail (colored box normally) boxed hardware item.

For example: When purchasing a CPU the retail version usually has a matching
fan / heatsink / or combination, while with the OEM version you must
purchase your own fan.

For software, OEM usually means you get the "disks" or CD to install the
software but no instruction manuals. A knowledgeable person can save some
money, while others will need to purchase manuals or use the Help system for
that software package to learn the procedures used for that package.

In a generic sense OEM means that the retailer or distributor has
agreed to assume the role and responsibilities of the Original
Equipment Manufacturer with respect to that item, especially with
regard to the product warranty and product support to the end-user.

Many large chain stores sell appliances or electronic devices under
their own "house" brand names. These are OEM products, produced by
some major manufacturer under contract, but it is the retailer who
provides the warranty and end-user support for those products and who
decides the terms and conditions that apply to that warranty/support.

Same thing with OEM computer software, except that with software it is
customary to retain the original manufacturer's name.

For example, a Dell computer running an OEM version of Microsoft
Windows XP supplied by Dell should more properly display a splash
screen that says "Dell Windows XP, licensed from Microsoft" rather
than "Microsoft Windows XP".
