NTFS Conversion Failure

I got this book on Windows XP and I was skimming through
it and came across a section on converting FAT32 drives
into NTFS. Seeing as how NTFS is supposedley so much
better than FAT32, I tried to convert my drive (the only
drive on my computer, it has only 1 partition) to NTFS.

Here is what I've been typing into the Command prompt:
CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS /CvtArea:mtf.txt /X

The /FS:NTFS just means to convert the drive,
the /CvtArea deals with the Master File Table which I
have saved to the file mtf.txt (apparently, this is to
prevent the Master File Table from being screwed up
somehow), and the /X simply helps me skip a couple of
steps.

Since I'm trying this on my system disk, Windows needs to
reboot to attempt to convert the drive. So I restart and
Windows starts to check my disk, then it shows some
message about how it can't convert the drive. This error
message doesn't last but 1 second. Then Windows continues
to boot up and my disk hasn't been converted to NFTS.

Is there any way I can at least look at that error
message for longer than 1 second? Or does anybody have a
good suggestion to help me successfully convert my drive?
Please!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

When the error message comes up press the pause key on
your keyboard (you may have to press shift key also
depending on placement). When you are done reading hit
the enter key.

Nobody,

Try just a 'convert c: /fs:ntfs'. I've never had an MFT issue with dozens
and dozens of NTFS conversions.

Just remember to have a backup of your important files on another disk or
medium in case the conversion does not work properly.
