Hi,

I'm new to this board and sorry if its been asked before.

Problem:

Basically what happens is that my desktop refresh's and the
system tray loses its icons, not all the icons disapear,
It really ANNOYING as i cant bring those icons back to
the systray unless I log out and log back in.

Faulting application explorer.exe,
faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.1217,

Here all i have done:

1. Formatted NTFS Partition and Installed XP Pro
2. Installed Device drivers for System
3. Installed SP1a and also Critical Updates
4. (All Services are Running as default and i have not ammended any)
(also Scanned Hard disk with Spybot and Adaware)
5. And hey presto ntdll.dll Problem is now back and Explorer keeps crashing

XP Pro with SP1, DX 9b

I have 2 other pc's with the same installtion, but they dont crash at all.

So it must be something on this pc thats making it crash like this.

Its either crashing with IE 6 when I'm browsing the net or
Explorer when i'm browsing the hard drives

Cheers for any help.

768MB DDR PC2100

Sucks?? Its a pain in the butt lol.

I had the problem beofre and thought that if I did a clean installtion
of XP pro it would cure it, but it came back with avengence.

And thats not the only problem I have, when I use anything to do with
BitTorrent
that caused the Blue Screen Of Death. I've never had soo many problems.

I've used the System Configuration Utility and that only helps so far. Its
would
help a lot if there was a quick fix for this or these problems. I did read
that it could
be one of the critical fixes namely 815021 but I checked the other pcs that
dont have
any crashes and they have that fix too on them so it cant be that.

You said you formatted and installed XP Pro. Did the problems occur
right after a fresh install without adding any programs or did it start
some time later?

Hi,

My pc does the same thing, it refreshes and system tray loses most of it's
icons. I have asked other people with XP and most don't have that problem and
those that do, have not solved it. I do not know what's going on. I tried
that troubleshoot but got lost in it, it didn't mention anything about
refresh and what causes it. Basically I have 1gig ddr pc3200 ram so I don't
think ram is a problem. It is annoying when it happens. Please help me if you
guys have a solution to this problem.

What happens is that explorer is crashing, then it automatically reloads
but not all the programs are designed by their author to reload, so
those that aren't don't reload into the Notification area - it's not the
system tray in XP. Check in the event viewers for clues on what's crashing.
