Make sure you 'prepare' all your tapes beforehand. Prior to
executing NTBACKUP, refresh the RSM database. I've also had
some success by first restarting the "Removable Storage"
service.

Here are the best (IMNO) two references on Win2000 unattended
backups:-

Try "rsm erase" before run backup

There's no such option.

RSM [ALLOCATE | DEALLOCATE | MOUNT | DISMOUNT | EJECT | EJECTATAPI |
CREATEPOOL | DELETEPOOL | VIEW | REFRESH | INVENTORY]

There is:
RSM [ALLOCATE | DEALLOCATE | MOUNT | DISMOUNT | EJECT | EJECTATAPI |
CREATEPOOL | DELETEPOOL | VIEW | REFRESH | INVENTORY | RENAME |
UI | FREEMEDIA | ERASE]
