Is there such a download available for Vista? I remember reading that one
would be made available that would allow read (no write) capabilities from
tapes written on NT Backup (NT4, W2K, XP Pro, WS2K3). If a download is not
available do any of the flavors of Vista have this available onboard?

Hello Ian,

Thank you for your post.

Before you install and run Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility, you need to
turn on or install the Removable Storage Management feature.

To turn on Removable Storage Management in Windows Vista

1. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click Programs, and then
click Turn Windows Features on or off. If you are prompted for an
administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
confirmation.
2. Select the check box next to Removable Storage Management to turn the
feature on, and then click OK.

To install Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility

1. Click the Download button next to a file listed below.
2. To start the installation immediately, click Run.
-or-
To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time,
click Save.

The NtBackupRestore_Win64.msi file is for 64-bit version of Windows Vista
and NtBackupRestore_x86.msi file is for 32-bit version of Windows Vista.
Please ensure that you have downloaded the correct file.

To find if you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows Vista:

1. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, click System and
Maintenance, and then click System.
2. The operating system is listed under System type.
I hope this helps.

If the issue still occurs, please capture a screenshot for my research.

To capture a screenshot:

1. Please press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard when the

Neo,

I have emailed you the screenshots. But I had followed your instructions and
it hadn't worked.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply and the screenshot.

I don't think there is grammatical error in the error message. It says that
before Windows NT Backup - Restore Utility could be installed, the
installer was interrupted.

Please have another try with the following steps:

1. Login as administrator

2. Turn off UAC on Vista

To do this, please:

1) Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2) In Control Panel, click User Accounts.

3) In the User Accounts window, click User Accounts.

4) In the User Accounts tasks window, click Turn User Account Control on or
off.

5) If UAC is currently configured in Admin Approval Mode, the User Account
Control message appears. Click Continue.

6) Clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer
check box, and then click OK.

7) Click Restart Now to apply the change right away, or click Restart Later
and close the User Accounts tasks window.

3. Login as administrator again and run the *.msi file and please check
whether the installer can be run successfully.

Thank you for your attention and I look forward to hearing from you soon. :

Neo,

Sorry for my delay in getting back to you. Yes it was UAC (User Account
Control) which was causing the issue. I turned it off and it installed ok. :D

Thanks for your help.

Ian
