NT Kernel and System: problem

X

_xXx_

Hi there,
is it normal for SYSTEM (NT Kernel and System) process to speed up cpu
usage up to 50-80% for at least 15 minutes when the desktop appears???
In the meanwhile the hard disk keeps running and running, but I don't
know what it's doing, since everything has already been loaded! Past
those 15 mins the pc works fine, though it seems to be a little bit
slower than I can remember.
This all happens since I've installed latest windows updates (that is
KB973540, KB968389, KB971557, KB956744, KB971657, KB973507, KB970653);
uninstalling these updates doesn't solve the problem...
OS is Windows Vista Home Premium
PC is a mobile pc, AMD Turion X2 64 dual-core 2.0GHz, 3GB RAM DDR2,
250GB HDD SATA
Thanks
Bye

Hi,

15 minutes would not be normal. More likely that there is malware involved.
A minute or two, depending on cofiguration, would not be unusual as one of
the things Vista does is preload commonly used files for the user
(prefetch). I would look at what's loading in the startup axis (not
everything is visible, you need to use tools like autoruns or hijackthis),
and run antivirus/antispyware checks from safe mode.
