NT Backup scheduled job not working

Michael

I have scheduled a daily backup of a local (compressed)
volume from a PDC to a folder on another server but it
doesn't run. Both servers are running Windows 2000 Server
Standard. Separate backup software also runs on these
machines but at a different time. Nothing obvious (to me)
in Event Viewer. No log file created for the scheduled
job.

I've set it up according to MS instructions and it runs
fine as a one-off job but when scheduled it doesn't
appear to run (the destination file doesn't change
regardless of wether or not the schedule is set to append
or replace). There are no error messages and the Task
Scheduler service is running.

We can run the job manually each day but would like to
automate it so that it runs at a time when no files are
open. Any suggestions?

You write "no log file created for the scheduled job". I remain
to be convinced. Did you have a look in the Task Scheduler
under the Advanced pull-down menu?

.

Which Advanced pull-down menu? Within NT Backup/Advanced
Schedule Options for the job the date had been set at one
point to a date in the past (when job was created) but
this was changed to next run time. There is a log file
for the manual job that runs successfully. Am I looking
in the right place for the Advanced pull-down menu?

You wrote "No log file created for the scheduled job."
It's the Task Scheduler that manages scheduled jobs, and
this is where your the log file for every schedule task is
visible (Control Panel / Task Scheduler).

Ok. The job shows up there with a status of 'Could not
start' and last run time as 'Never'. This could be
because yesterday's date was associated with it yet it
was due to run at 2:00am today. I think I've already
tried this with a recent attempt but can't be sure. I've
reset the start date for tomorrow so maybe this will work?

There was a password change recently so I've re-entered
it. I'll post back with a result after the weekend.
Thanks for your help.
