nt 4 pdc, dlocal groups, dcpromo what happens?

Hello,
I have a pdc that is also acting as a file server.
I am going to mixed mode and would like to move everything but f&p off the
current pdc before/after i upgrade it.

In mixed mode is their any problems with dcpromoing a 2k pdc? What will
happen to the dlocal groups on it? will they get stripped out? or will
they get changed to just local groups?

If I understand you correctly, you're asking if you can upgrade your NT 4
domain to Windows 2000 and preserve your accounts by upgrading the PDC
first.

The answer is yes, that is the method to do that. Upgrading the NT4 machine
will, once setup is complete, start the Active Directory Installation Wizard
(DCPROMO). You domain users and groups from NT will be preserved in the
process.
