I want to try and get an NT 4 machine to be a member server again.
First is there a way a to do it in NT 4?
Second, if I upgrade to W2k then dcpromo and join a doman with a
different name, then undcpromo it, won't that also accomplish it?

Can't do it in NT4 without 3rd party software like Upromote. You could
upgrade to Win2k and this will create Active Directory but only do this if
your aware of what your doing. IE if there are client computers on this NT4
domain etc. Once you upgrade to Win2k it will run dcpromo automatically
because this machine was a DC in NT4, once it has done this and rebooted,
you could then run DCpromo again and make it a member server and then you
could join it to another domain and make it a DC of that domain if you want
but that is not necessary. Of course by doing this you will lose all of your
NT4 domain and all of its user and computer accounts.

Perfect. That is what I thought but wanted to double check. Thanks for
your help.
