Hello peoples. Would anyone out there happen to know why
it is, that sometimes after an OS is installed, when you
shut it down, it gives you the message of >It's now safe
to turn off your computer< I just installed Win2k on
a Compaq that had 98 on it. It never came up when it was
running 98, it just shut off like it had some sense.

I'm thinking that there is an option SomeWheRe, either in
the BIOS(setup) or in Windows that I don't know about
that can just let the thing shutdown normally
byitself<.

If anybody knows a way of taking care of this, please
send me a reply. I would very much appreciate it.

try going into the control panel > power applet and enabling ACPI
support. Some Compaqs require the models own power drivers from the
Compaq website

If Steve's fix doesn't solve the problem you just might be facing
another Win2K install. I haven't seen this myself, but I have heard
that during the install process Windows can possibly conclude that the
sytem is not capable of automatic shutdown, and that if this happens,
the fix is to re-install, taking care to indicate that the system can
handle automatic shutdown. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Hi Steve. There is Power Options in the control panel, I
take it that that is what you are refering to. BUT, in
the power options properties window there is nothing that
leads me to anything that deals with ACPI at all. There
are four tabs to choose from >>Power
Schemes;Advanced;Hibernate;UPS and in none of these I see
what you are referring to. Wayne B.
