NOW() but stop recalculating!

ok, i can get the NOW() funtion to paste the date when the cell was las
updated, but as soon as the next cell (date) is updated, the origina
date is updated also.

I need to figure out how to get the date to stop calculating each tim
the worksheet re-calculates.

help!
