Notification Area not displaying icons at times.

Running WindowsXP on laptop.

Recently noticed that the notification area is not displaying icons at
times. For example when I plug in a Travel drive the Icon to safely remove
power would appear.I now have to run:the Rundll32.exe hotplug. Now I see
that when I go on battery, the battery with percent power left is not
appearing. I've check Control panel, Power Options Advanced tab and I have
display power icon on.

Any idea what might be goine on?

TIA
