nothing in event log

When I login a W2k Adv server (sp4 + hot fixes, Terminal
service and Citrix MetaFrame 1.8) as a local
administrator, When I open Event View, System event is
hilighted at lleft, "System 2,632 eventt(s)" displaied on
the top. But nonthing display underneath. When I click
Application node, "Application log 0 events" . After I
click "Refresh", I can see both application events and
security events. "System log 2,633 event(s)" also
displaied on the top, but nothing underneath.

What could prevent a local administrator to read the
system event log ? This server is under a NT 4 domain.
This NT4 domain is trusted to Active Directory. I scaned
Local Computer policy, but didn't find anything could
cause it.

I installed hotfix 829246. But the problem is still there.
