Look for notepad.exe.
In windows explorer navigate to:
1. drive_letter:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup
or
Drive_letter:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
If found in startup folder...delete (notepad.exe)
In the registry (Start/Run/regedit) navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Look in Run subkey (in right pane ) for notepad.exe
If found right-click entry and delete
WARNING: incorrectly editing the registry can adversely affect your system.
Backup the subkey first or create a restore point.
The "Mother of all questions": What changes (installations) have been
made prior to the first encounter and why don't you undo these changes
(installations)? Scan the system for malware and use the MSCONFIG tool
