Hi,
I am fairly familiar with computers and do a lot of work
with HTML, meaning I use notepad frequently. But one day
last week, I tried opening notepad and a box popped up,
saying:
"Warning! Trend PC-cillin has detected a virus" and gave
the virus name (TROJ_WINPUP.B) and the infected file
name. I run my virus scan every day, and have not had a
problem with viruses.
This box prevents me from opening notepad and any files
that use it. Does anybody know how to fix this? I
appreciate your time.

Zoe:

Assuming that Trend protected you and Trend ended up deleting NOTEPAD.EXE. Here's how you
can restore NOTEPAD.EXE.

The following assumes the WinXP CDROM is in drive "D:".
Go to; Start --> Run

Type; expand d:\i386\notepad.ex_ c:\windows\notepad.exe
Hit the Enter key.

If you have a c:\i386 directory you can use the following command instead...

expand c:\i386\notepad.ex_ c:\windows\notepad.exe

Zoe,

Good to see Trend has spotted it. But you need to run a Full System scan as well, to remove any other viruses.
Taking about auto-protect [or similar option] or a full system scan? Both are important.
