Notepad: The parameter is incorrect

I am trying to open a text file on a mapped drive. When
using notepad, the message "The parameter is incorrect"
pops up. If any other editor is used, the file opens. If
the file is copied and opened locally with notepad, it
works. The problem is visible on antoher PC running SP3,
but returns a different error !? what now?

The files are small : between 1 and 4 KiloBytes. Let me
also add for information that this only happens when
mapping to a particular machine/server. When opening text
files on any other share, it works. All permissions on
the non-working share checks out. I am thus also focusing
on possible error on the hosting machine (win2000
server), and not just the local box. Any thoughts?
